Thinking of skippering a yacht on Holiday? Here's our suggested route to take to become qualified and competent to skipper a yacht on holiday by next Summer!
Take the first steps with a Competent Crew Practical courses before the end of this Summer, join us in the classroom to get your navigation and theory up to scratch and then undertake the Day Skipper Practical Course in the new year and you'll be ready to take your friends or family on the holiday of a lifetime!
Step 1: Competent Crew Course – Train to be an effective crew member aboard a yacht
Experience living on board and really get to know the boat. Virtually all the course is hands on. You are the crew - without you the sails won't go up and the boat won't be steered. By the end of the course you should be able to steer, handle sails, keep a lookout, row a dinghy and assist in all the day to day duties on board.

Step 3: Day Skipper Practical – Learn to Skipper a Yacht
The final step is to undertake the 5-day Day Skipper Course, we’ll shortly announce the Spring dates for this programme and would recommend to build on the theory course as soon as you can. You’ll learn how to safely skipper a modern cruising yacht, and at the end of this programme, be ready to head to sea with friends or family. At the end of the programme, you’ll be eligible for an ICC (international certificate of competency) which most charter companies would look for before chartering a yacht.
