The Junior Club starts was back for spring on Saturday the 6th of February. We’ll continue to expand the range of boats on offer to sail for members to increase their sailing ability in a wide range of sailing boats.

In the 7-10 years age group we’ll have the oppie dinghies and toppers out once again. Plenty of fun and games await as a busy schedule is planned by this terms 7-10 years group head.
The 11-14 years age group have come on leaps and bounds last term. Their group head will be focussing on continuing this development. There’s also plans afoot to send some time sailing keelboats and giving members the early skills to helm, trim sails and cope with the usual situations keelboat sailors will find themselves in. Finally, the 11-14 years group will have a dedicated instructor to welcome new members, of all sailing abilities and none, and get them introduced to fellow sailors in addition to helping them with their sailing.
The 15+ years age group will also benefit from time spent on keelboats. Already familiar with the basics, we’ll push the boat out a bit and start to teach the group about spinnaker handling as well as advanced seamanship skills aboard these boats. As the weather improves, we’ll turn our attention to sailing aboard the more performance orientated dinghies.
All 2016 Spring Junior Club members are invited to take part in a few special events this year. Firstly, the newly formed Irish National Sailing Club will be hosting a regatta on Saturday the 9th of April. Many years ago the INSC (at the time being a subsidiary of the school) used to organise a race for all the adult club members and juniors. It will be the first time since 2008 that this event is held and should be great fun!
Finally, the sail-a-thon this year will take place again. All junior club members will be invited to take part, and more details will be released to members after the term is up and running.
