The Junior Club got underway last Saturday and is off to a great start. Our section heads, Heather, Will and Conor detail what each group got up to and what the rest of the term holds.

7-10 Years Group - Section Head: Heather

This week we recapped on our rigging and tacking drills to reinforce what we learnt during the summer and aloud our new members to become up to date. We then did a reaching course which allowed the instructors to see what level the sailors are at and what progress needs to be made. Over the next term we will be mastering are reaching skills as well as working on our upwind sailing using both a follow the leader technique and a triangle course.

11-14 Years Group - Section Head: Hazel

It was great to see so many familiar faces come down to junior club along with a whole bunch of new ones. It being the first day we decided to go out and have two long sessions just to get everyone back into the swing of things. Next week we will begin to focus on logbooks and see what people need to get signed off.

15+ Years Group - Section Head: Conor

The term got off to a great start – perfect sailing weather allowed us the choice of whatever dinghy members wanted to sail in. The Magnos, Laser IIs, Vago and Fevas were all out along with loads of picos. As the term progresses we’ll spend some time of the squibs and 1720s. I want to teach members some skills with the spinnakers on both the dinghies and larger boats, and of course I’ll be keeping an eye out for potential instructor candidates too!

New members are welcome to join at any stage. For more information on joining the Junior Club please click here.
