After welcoming our sailors back to Junior Club after their Summer Holidays, I’ve prepared a plan for this term which takes into the account the ability of all our sailors, both old and new. This plan will be carried out over this season until we break for the Christmas Holidays in December. From our last session, we had several students trying the Junior Club on a trial basis and we hope to see them all back over the following weeks.
The key aims of this term are all about building up confidence on the water, having fun and making new friends while also progressing our sailing abilities. In terms of theory, we will be learning the points of sailing so that we can correctly set our sails and some basic rope work. They will also be learning how to help rig and derig their boats. This term, the 7-10s sailors will be using our Oppies to improve their sailing in a safe, controlled setting so that they may progress to higher performance boats in the coming years.
We use logbooks to track the progress of our students. If you do not own a logbook, they can be found in the office. Those who wish to progress their skills can bring their logbooks in each week and I will sign off any skills learned during that day’s session. If there are any specific topics that students wish to cover, they can come to me and I will do my best to fit it into our plan.
I would also like to point out that over the next few weeks, the weather will begin to get colder as winter approaches. Those who have sailed with the Junior Club before will remember this from last winter. I would strongly recommend extra layers of clothing such as hats, jackets and gloves.
I’m looking forward to getting to know everyone over the next few weeks and to all the fun we’re going to be having this term. If there are any questions, don't hesitate to ask me. I can’t wait to see you all down!
