Our 15-17 years section head Jeff Fahy chats about what the group are up to this term.
All the sailors have been working hard and making big improvements to their sailing ability this term aided by the near perfect sailing conditions so far. With the weather beginning to cool we will shift our activities to be more on the water and less in the water, making use of the school’s fleet of 1720 sportsyachts. With this in mind it is important that as the weather cools that the sailors bring some warmer clothes, being warm can be the difference between a good day on the water and a great day!
We will be taking full advantage of the wide variety of boats in our fleet including the bigger dinghies, 1720 sportsyachts and we’re even planning some powerboating. There will be an increased focus on efficient sailing from point to point aiming to have the sailors be confident in rigging and sailing the 1720 sportsyachts independent of the instructors.
We will continue our work with the more experienced sailors working on trapezing upwind as well as using spinnakers correctly down wind.
We also have a Hallowe’en course running from Tuesday 30th October to Friday 2nd November which is an excellent opportunity for the sailors to get out on the water and work towards their log book levels as it is a little bit more intensive. The week will be primarily aboard the 1720s.
All in all we have an action packed 2 months ahead of us, we look forward to seeing you out on the water!
