New navigation programme for powerboaters launched

Irish Sailing, the national governing body for sailing and powerboating in Ireland, have recently undertaken a review of the Powerboat Scheme and have upgraded a number of programmes, including the Coastal Navigation for Small Boats Course.

This course will now provide the perfect basis for further powerboat training, at the new Intermediate level as well as the advanced level.

Designed to be a shorter, more relevant and intense course than the RYA Day Skipper or Yachtmaster Theory programmes, the coastal navigation for small boats course will focus on navigation techniques required specifically for powerboaters.

The new syllabus includes all a powerboater would need to know prior to heading to sea, including interpreting weather forecasts and information, chartwork including plotting a fix, course to steer and determine distances, tides, buoyage and passage planning bring all of the above into play.

The first course of 2019 will run on Monday 4th, Wednesday 6th, Monday 11th, Wednesday 13th March and we’d love to invite all national powerboat course graduates, and anyone interested in taking their powerboat skills to the next level to join us.

Full information on the course can be found here.
