You must hold an National Powerboat Certificate or you can also hold an equivelent qualification with 20 hours driving experience. It’s also strongly recommended to have navigation ability to the standard of the Coastal Navigation for Small Boats course, as well as holding a VHF SRC Radio certificate and First Aid certificate.
Prior to the course, we ask that you download and print a copy of our powerboat course registration form. If you have any medical conditions, allergies or are undergoing any medical treatment we ask that you fill out a copy of our Medical Declaration Form. There’s no need to get the forms to us prior to the morning of the course, and we have plenty of spares on hand too.
The course starts at 9.30am on the first day. Registration on the first day is completed in a matter of seconds, so please don’t feel under any pressure to get to us early.
We provide Waterproof Clothing, Lifejacket / Buoyancy Aid and all other safety equipment but it is necessary to bring the following:
Our clubhouse is the first building on the West Pier. You can't miss us once you get close; we’re a white building with our name displayed in large lettering. Landmarks close-by include The Purty Kitchen Seafood Restaurant and the West Pier Filling Station.
We are well served by public transport; the nearest DART Station is Salthill & Monkstown. Bus numbers 7, 7A, 45A, 46A, 59, 746, 111, 63 and 75 all serve Dun Laoghaire and are a few minutes’ walk from the clubhouse.

The next step would be to further your navigation ability with a Day Skipper Theory Course as well as ensuring your VHF radio skills are up to date (and licensed). The next step after the Intermediate Powerboat Course is the Advanced Powerboat Course, a further step up from what you’ll learn over the weekend.
