Role: Irish Sailing Powerboat Instructor
Start Date: Immediate
Role Type: Contract / Part Time
We’re looking for a powerboat instructor to join our team. We’ve a full schedule of weekend National Powerboat Certificate courses between now and the end of November 2021. The ideal candidate would be enthusiastic and friendly, and we could offer the full schedule of programmes to the right candidate.
Applicants for Full Schedule of Courses
For a flavour of what our course schedule looks like, please see our National Powerboat Certificate Page. Currently our management team are covering these courses, however, we’re keen to appoint an instructor to the full schedule (or a number of courses). We typically run courses with 2 boats, allowing instructors share the lesson leadership.
Once the 2021 schedule has concluded, we restart powerboat courses in February. We’d be interested in working with any applicants to schedule these around college exams for example or other commitments.
Part Time / Freelance Applications
Equally, we’d be more than happy to hear from freelance/part-time applicants. We have a fleet of four 6.5m plus RIBs for powerboat teaching, and a large waiting list. Applications for infrequent / part time roles will be warmly received.
Knowledge, Qualifications and Experience required:
- Hold a valid Irish Sailing Powerboat Instructor Certificate
- First Aid certificate that is valid for the duration of your contract
- VHF license
- Experience of working as part of a small team, ideal but not essential
- Previous customer service experience, ideal but not essential
- Mature approach and attitude to work
- Ability to solve problems and work under pressure
- Approachable, welcoming, friendly, and enthusiastic
- Able to communicate well with clients and staff of all ages
- Clean and tidy appearance
- First class seamanship and boat husbandry skills
Successful applicants will teach the Irish Sailing Introduction to Powerboating and National Powerboat Certificate Courses. These predominantly take place at weekends, although we’d be happy to explore weekday courses if the applicant is interested in delivering these.
If you’re an experienced Instructor, great! If you’re a newly qualified Instructor, no problem. We’ll provide all the additional training required to run our programmes.
About the Courses
The Irish National Sailing & Powerboat School has a fleet of over 60 powerboats. For our powerboat courses, a fleet of small plastic tiller arm boats, three small 4.5m RIBs and four 6.5m plus RIBs ranging from 115hp to 400hp are used.
Shoreside we’ve a large recently refurbished clubhouse on the west pier boasting large, light lecture rooms, an outdoor terrace and full shower and bathroom facilities. Courses are supported on shore by administrative/reception staff while all programmes are underway, allowing the instructor focus on teaching. These staff also deal with all certification and course follow up for the instructor.
Please submit a CV to firstname.lastname@example.org with “Irish Sailing Powerboat Instructor” in the subject line. Once we’ve received your application, we’ll review your experience and qualifications to ensure they meet the Knowledge, Qualifications and Experience required.
Once we’re satisfied you meet the criteria, we’ll organise a chat, either face to face or via Zoom. We’d be happy for the right candidate or candidates to start immediately.
