Children’s Sailing

Junior Club - Saturday Sailing during the School Term

Like our Summer courses, we’ll be operating strictly within the parameters from Government, Sports Ireland and Irish Sailing. While the exact format of the Junior Club activity on the water may vary, the main tenants of our approach will be as follows:

  • Outside activity, with absolutely minimal indoor time
  • Individual or “pod” sailing and boating
  • Strong hand hygiene, respiratory hygiene and social distancing (which luckily sailing and boating provides for with relative ease).

We’re equally conscious that many may be feeling the effects of the last year in their pockets, so rather than charging one large lump sum, we’re breaking the terms into even smaller instalments, each covering about a month at a time.

Who should join in?

The programme is specifically designed with students from our Summer courses and past Junior Club members in mind, so some sailing experience is essential.

Dates and Prices?

We're delighted to be launching the first (intended as opposed to re-scheduled) Junior Club Summer Term. As in previous terms, sailors can choose between sailing from 10am-1pm or 2-5pm. While there will still be flexibility in attending at a different time to the one booked, this will need to be confirmed in advance, as we’ll have to manage numbers and contact tracing requirements each week.

August Mini-Term - €120 per child

  • Saturday 7th August
  • Saturday 14th August
  • Saturday 21st August
  • Saturday 28th August

What happens if restrictions are tightened and sailing can no longer take place?

Part of the reasoning for short mini-terms is to provide flexibility to parents and students. If restrictions are imposed, we’ll reschedule the remaining dates in each mini-term. No one will lose out, and no one will be out of pocket for a large number of Saturdays while they wait for a rescheduled date.

What to bring?

Like our Summer courses, we’re asking that children arrive and leave in their wetsuit (or borrowed wetsuit) and come changed ready to participate in the activity. Nevertheless, the following items are required:

  • Change of clothes and shower gear – in case they get very cold
  • Bottled water (packed lunches not needed; we’re requesting that parents not pack food so as to reduce the risk of cross contamination while eating)
  • Footwear that you don’t mind if they get wet, old runners would be ideal
  • Rain jacket – even for when it’s not raining, it will keep a lot of the wind off
  • Hat and suncream for sunny days
  • Wooley hat for cooler days
  • Wetsuit – either your child’s own one or you can rent one from us for the duration of the term, bringing it home each day.

Wetsuit Rental - €20 for each mini-term.

Want to get your child their own gear? We’re excited to announce we’ll shortly be launching details of a new partnership with a local chandlery for wetsuits, booties, kags, buoyancy aids and all other things a sailor would need. Stay tuned!

Collection of the wetsuit can take place in the week preceeding the start of the first date, including the Saturday and Sunday of the weekend before. We'll be open 9am-5pm each day, Monday-Sunday.

Bookings can be made online below or by phone to 01 2844195. Please ensure to have read our terms and conditions prior to enrolling.

Trial Days Please note we will not be offering trial days this year. The shorter mini-terms should provide a route for those to commit to a few weeks to see how their child gets on. In addition, for staffing and ratio perspectives to comply with restrictions we are unable to facilitate the one-off date this year.
