Children’s Sailing

Second Level Yacht Programme

Programme Syllabus:

Our programme will equip students with the practical and theoretical skills to undertake a weekend long passage aboard one of our yachts. The programme will cover navigation, pilotage, practical sailing skills,  as well as students obtaining a Powerboat License and a VHF license. Modules include:

  • Keelboat and Yacht Racing Modules, including spinnaker skills on 1720s and Racing Yachts
  • RYA Essential Navigation and Seamanship Course
  • Department of Marine VHF SRC License
  • National Powerboat Certificate Course
  • Yacht Skills from Competent Crew and Day Skipper Course

Programme Outling:

The programme runs on Wednesday afternoons from 3pm-6pm. The duration of 26 dates is sufficient for the completion of the Silver Gaisce President’s Award. The programme will conclude with a weekend long passage on-board one of our yachts lasting from Friday afternoon until Sunday evening, again this is in keeping with the requirements of the Silver Gaisce Award. The destination of the trip will be up to the students, who will use their new found skills to plan and execute the voyage, all under the guidance of one of our Cruising Instructors.
