Children’s Sailing

Sea Explorers - 4-6 Year Olds

The Sea Explorers are the masters of Dun Laoghaire as they explore the Harbour in their Pirate Launch! The programme runs from 9am-12.30pm Monday to Friday during the Summer months.

Sea Explorers spend their day undertaking a wide variety of activities based around the water in Dun Laoghaire Harbour and Seapoint Beach. The day begins at our Clubhouse on the West Pier in Dun Laoghaire. After a short talk about the marine ecosystem students head to the outdoor classroom Seapoint Beach to explore the sea shore looking for all the marine wildlife. There’s a different focus each day so there’s always something new to explore.

Exploring the historic harbour and fun and games keep everyone entertained. The highlight of the day is the trip around the harbour on our Pirate Launches, where the landmarks of Dun Laoghaire harbour are explored aboard our launch boats flying our Pirate Flag – Argh!

Booking Update

Booking Update - 30th June 2021

Booking Procedure

While the situation with COVID-19 has improved dramatically, we are still required to, and are indeed happy to, operate within the public health measures. Our first and foremost priority with every programme is the safety of our team and students, so we will continue with a cautious approach to our operation that has served us well in all day-to-day operations involving the water and so far throughout this pandemic. We make no apologies for operating in this way and this is in fact the only way we are willing to operate.

What this means is that we are limiting our numbers on courses, including the 4-6 year old Sea Explorers programme. Since Christmas, we have been building a waiting list of parents who are interested in booking their children onto the programmes when bookings open, and have consistently said that bookings will be on a first come first served basis when bookings do open.

We have at least twice the number of interested parties as there going to be spaces, so have chosen to manage the bookings in a manner that is consistent with what we had stated as the plan.

To manage the bookings, we are releasing the booking link in smaller increments, rather than all at once. We are doing so in the order on which the details were added to our waiting list (or as close to this as possible*).

* At this point we want to make clear that we are doing our very best to issue the booking link in the order in which names were added, however, we may make mistakes – it has been an incredibly hectic year so far. We are unable to spend time checking where anyone is on the waiting list or indeed deal with disputes as to when a name was added – we really are doing our best here and appreciate everyone’s understanding.

Once a week is booked out we cannot add additional children. This is to ensure everyone’s safety and we are not going to compromise on staff or participants safety.

Online Booking Only

We can only accept bookings via our online system. No telephone or email bookings are possible.

Complaints

While we have found the vast majority of customers to be supportive and understanding, we want to reiterate we do not make public health advise, we can only apply the advise, and indeed the law at the time, to our operation. Our team are really trying very hard to look after everyone, and we want to thank the vast majority of our customers for their patience and understanding as we deal with the challenge of operating safely in a pandemic.

If you wish to make a complaint about the booking process and the only way we can proceed safely with the programme, you can do so by email to sailing@inss.ie.
